About the Item

This sofa was produced by AB Trensums Fåtöljfabrik from Sweden around 1950s/1960s according Johannes Andersen design. Like most furniture from Scandinavia, it was made with great care and accuracy, which we could observe throughout the renovation process. Extremely interesting design and beautiful line in boomerang shape, that’s still fresh and enchanting nowadays. The sofa has undergone a thorough upholstery renovation, the seats have been completely replaced and the new upholstery fabric comes from Danish brand KVADRAT. The textile we have used in this particular project is „Tonica2” in deep purple melange. „Tonica2” is one of Kvadrat’s all times classics and best sellers. The fabric used on the inside is black linen combined with cotton. The furniture is set on a solid metal frame that provides high stability and looks great. The„Capri” series is one of Johannes Andersen’s signature designs, well know and appreciated in design history. Johannes Andersen was born in Aarhus, Denmark in 1903. He apprenticed as a cabinet maker, becoming certified in 1922. By the mid-1930s, when Danish modern design rose in popularity beyond Denmark, he opened his own workshop. He continued to work with other design houses as well, including CFC Silkeborg in Denmark and Trensum in Sweden. Johannes Andersen garnered international acclaim in his lifetime that is still accorded to him today.

Leif Hansen "Model 62" Sofa for Kronen Møbelfabrikken, Denmark, 1960s
By Kronen, Leif Hansen
Located in Utrecht, NL
Leif Hansen’s Model 62 sofa is commonly referred to as the “Geisha” and was designed in 1959. This model is a strikingly elegant example of Danish modernism’s streamlined, luxurious aesthetic appeal to contemporary eyes. This three-seater sofa is made of two types of exotic woods and dressed in a premium light fabric. Its character is created by three main elements: the visually sectioned, fully upholstered body, the wooden accents on the arms, and the distinctively shaped legs. It says a lot when a model is representative not only of a designer, but also of a manufactory. So is the case with this Geisha sofa...
