About the Item

This is a fantastic collectors example of the extremely rare 'Presidencial' three-seat sofa by Jorge Zalszupin for L'Atelier Moveis, Sao Paolo Brazil, circa 1960. Featuring a sculptural Jacaranda (an exotic variant of Brazilian Rosewood) frame with slatted seat backs and seductive curved arms sitting on top of three black and chrome steel legs. Subtle details complete this exotic couch such as the oversized brass screws on the sides - a beautiful detail sometimes lacking on other examples. The Jacaranda Rosewood has exquisite grain and is finished in an expert French Polish. The original suede cushions with Jacaranda buttons are in aged vintage condition, a perfect opportunity to reupholster in a new fabric, leather or suede of your choice, but is also a great option to keep if you plan to use this sofa in a vintage appropriate setting. The vintage suede is very thick and hefty - something that is very hard to find these days. The cushions are also accented with its original Jacaranda buttons. This Jorge Zalszupin for L'Atelier three seat Presidencial sofa would work great in a brazilian modern, mid-century modern, scandinavian or danish modern, or post-modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a contemporary, hollywood regency or art deco room. Also consider mixing it up in a traditional, classical or art deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would pair well with other Brazilian Modern pieces from designers such as Sergio Rodrigues, Joaquim Tenreiro, Giuseppe Scapinelli, Novo Rumo, Martin Eisler, Carlo Hauner, Percival Lafer, Fatima Arquitetura e Interiores, and JD Moveis. Contact us for more details on our Brazilian Mid-Century Modern design collection. Loveseat Sofa by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani Italy, c 1970, Signed
By Claudio Salocchi, Sormani
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This newly reupholstered loveseat sofa by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani, circa 1970s, features a graceful chrome frame with nubby white bouclé fabric. Signed with 1960s/ 1970s Sormani label as shown in photo gallery. *Note, we have the matching pair of club chairs available in another listing. The graceful frame shares a design quality with Cassina's LC2 / LC3 design by Le Corbusier, as they are 'buckets of cushions' in similar fashion and comfort. However this Sormani sofa features some unique subtle details, such as the slight "twist" in the rear legs (see photos). Signed with a Sormani label, this particular rare design is attributed to Claudio Salocchi. While there were several other famous designers who created works for Sormani in this time period, the style best matches Salocchi's work. For collectors looking for something unique and rare within a collection of 1960s/ 1970s Italian designs, this pair two-seater couch is an amazing opportunity. This Cassina LC2 / LC3 loveseat...
