About the Item

Ubald Klug for De Sede, DS-1025 'Terrazza' landscape sofa, leather, Switzerland, 1970s. Waterfall shaped sofa in red brown leather by the Swiss manufacturer De Sede. The design for this sofa was inspired by mountains and especially the Alps. This design resembles a terraced hill with widths and depths that vary in tapering steps. Both playful and opulent; the design of this landscape is simply spectacular. The leather upholstery shows a beautiful patina that adds to its overall character. De Sede once started as a saddler's workshop in Klingnau, Switzerland. Slowly, the company widened their Scope and committed themselves to transforming the best possible leather into seating furniture. In 1965 the family-run business grew into a professional company and their name was De Sede AG. DeSede products are detail-obsessed with the main focus on the people who own and use them. Therefore, all the DeSede items are made out of the best materials which results in durability and comfort. Please note that this item is in good, used condition with traces of age and use. Some irregularities are present at the back of the item. For further details, we encourage you to reach out to our team of design specialists.

Ubald Klug DS-1025 "Terrazza" Sofa for De Sede, Brown Leather, 1974
By Ubald Klug, De Sede
Located in Lonigo, Veneto
Ubald Klug DS-1025 "Terrazza" sofa for De Sede, brown leather, Switzerland, 1974. Ubald Klug designed this rare modular DS-1025 "Terrazza" sofa as a real living landscape. Each element recalls a terrace-like, stepped slope with different widths and depths. A valley or a mountain can appear depending on how the individual modules are assembled. The "Terrazza" was recreated thanks to the De Sede manufacturer and its ability to transform high-quality leather into seating furniture. This multi-layered upholstered relief invites people to sit or lie down, combining durability and comfort with a unique design. After training at the Art and Design College in Zurich, Ulbald Klug (1932) gained further experience in architectural practices in Zurich and Helsinki. Paris has been his sphere of activity since 1966, when he founded his architecture and interior design bureau. Klug proved himself successful at finding solutions to different challenges and developed non-conformist solutions - from furniture design, to concepts for urban installations, to architectural prototypes...
