Rare original, 1940s fully restored hand dyed cigar brown leather gentleman’s Chesterfield club sofa Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, for an accurate quote please send me your postcode and I’ll price it up for you When looking at Chesterfield club sofas they can all seem much of a muchness, however in the details you find the differences and in the differences you find the quality, this piece is pretty much the best model you can buy It has the rare tapered oversized arms, they come forwards and taper wider at the front, the back is coil sprung and has a camel hump which means its slightly raised in the middle and allot boxier in general, the base is fully buttoned not cushioned, again the most time consuming and expensive type of base, the seat platform is coil sprung, each spring is hand tied eight ways, hessian supported and horse hair padded. Naturally this sofa weighs allot, I would say without exaggeration around three times as much as the modern equivelent The sofa was upholstered with thick premium 100% cattle hide untreated plain russet leather originally, this method of upholstery is substantially more expensive than using predyed leather, you can still have the best English Chesterfields made in this manor today but a piece of this size would be £15,000-£25,000 depending where you shop and what base you chose The way you can tell the piece is an original hand dyed Chesterfield is by pulling back the folds of leather, in the crease you will see the natural colour of the hide, these sofas are made with plain leather and then hand dyed to the customer’s specific colour choice, no two pieces are ever exactly the same and this process goes back hundreds of years All in all this is basically the best of the best, if you’re looking for the best then look no further!
