Warren Platner Walnut and Leather Floating Case Sofa for Lehigh Leopold, c. 1970

About the Item

This exceptionally rare and highly sought-after collectors piece (with celebrity provenance) is a Warren Platner Executive Leather Case Sofa designed for Lehigh Leopold in circa 1970, and features a floating Walnut case with deep brown tufted leather upholstery and cushions, over a polished steel pedestal base. When comparing to the Milo Baughman case sofa, which is very popular and in-demand, this Warren Platner sofa is hands down better in every way. First, it is more comfortable, with each of the three seats having a loose-styled seat and back cushions. The cushions are stitched in so they do not fall out of place, but they add additional comfort you otherwise would not have. In addition, the quality of construction is far greater. These were made for very-fancy high end executive offices - the materials and craftsmanship is simply superb. The Milo Baughman case sofas use inferior substrate with wood veneer which is prone to damage and wear and if you get one with original leather which generally you won't find - it would be with either faux leather or a lesser quality leather. The leather on this Platner sofa is thick and durable, made to withstand commercial use, while soft and comfortable, and the hefty steel base exudes quality - the kind you do not find in products made these days. **We also have a floating executive desk and credenza by Warren Platner for Lehigh Leopold. If you are looking for the full suite (sofa / desk / credenza set) please message us for more details. For the executive or creative exec who wants the most rare and coveted executive office sofa - look no further. And interior designers with a hard to please collector client or design connoisseur. This incredible executive three-seat couch by Warren Platner for Lehigh Leopold is ideal in a Post-Modern, Mid-Century Modern, Space Age Mod, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Zen / Minimalism room or office. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Hollywood Regency, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. PROVENANCE: Jim Carrey Collection of Modern Art and Design MEASUREMENTS: H 26.5" x W 92.75" x D 32" Seat Height: 16.5" Seat Depth: 18.5" CONDITION: Good original condition with generally light age and wear. Minor repair to piping on leather on lower right corner where the stitching previously came loose and two small leather repairs to upper portion near where the leather meets the wood case. Cushions have light patina as can be seen in close up photos. This can be covered with leather dye if desired. Since many people like the attractiveness of patina, we decided to leave this to the buyer to decide. Wood case is in very good condition with some minor wear and patina, can be refinished if desired. Steel base is in very good condition with no noticeable issues.

Loveseat Sofa by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani Italy, c 1970, Signed
By Claudio Salocchi, Sormani
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This newly reupholstered loveseat sofa by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani, circa 1970s, features a graceful chrome frame with nubby white bouclé fabric. Signed with 1960s/ 1970s Sormani label as shown in photo gallery. *Note, we have the matching pair of club chairs available in another listing. The graceful frame shares a design quality with Cassina's LC2 / LC3 design by Le Corbusier, as they are 'buckets of cushions' in similar fashion and comfort. However this Sormani sofa features some unique subtle details, such as the slight "twist" in the rear legs (see photos). Signed with a Sormani label, this particular rare design is attributed to Claudio Salocchi. While there were several other famous designers who created works for Sormani in this time period, the style best matches Salocchi's work. For collectors looking for something unique and rare within a collection of 1960s/ 1970s Italian designs, this pair two-seater couch is an amazing opportunity. This Cassina LC2 / LC3 loveseat...
