Ciça Stool, Artisan Taboa Straw Fiber Puff from Brazil
About the Item
Combining sustainability to the ancestry of handmade knowledge with
the use of industrial materials, the designer Tavinho Camerino balances
tradition and contemporaneity on his Taboa collection pieces. The
creations value respect for the essence of craftsmanship - specifically
from Alagoas, from where he gets much of his inspiration and raw
material, and are thought and elaborated along with the artists,
creating shapes and adapting techniques in order to interfere as little
as possible in the original processes.
The pieces show the cultural value of Northeastern handicrafts in each of the details, from the work production to its development. The Ciça Stool and the L.ANp are the main characters from this collection and illustrate the project. These pieces are made of aluminum on their bases and Taboa straw fibers as main component, giving comfort, authenticity and delicacy to any setting.
All items were created in partnership with a community of artisans from Feliz Deserto, a coastal city in Brazil, where the Taboa straw fibers, native from riverbanks, are extracted. When the fibers are dry, they are braided to create objects, such as baskets, bags and utensils for housework that take part in the artisan's daily culture.
The integration of new elements to existing items is the designer's personal branding. Tavinho Camerino travels through the industrial universe, while at the same time showing the knowledge and techniques of handmade, also contributing to the income generation of dozens of women in the community from the creation of pieces that act as supporting the genuine art of the artisans.

The only representative from Brazil to have his pieces exhibited at the
Salone Satellite, at the Milan Design Week, in 2022 and 2023, designer
Tavinho Camerino gained prominence and notoriety in the segment at a
national and international level. Illustrating the covers of highly regarded
magazines and portals such as journal La Repubblica, Interior Design
Magazine, Casa & Jardim, Casa Claudia, Home Cuix, Design Milk,
Estadão, Daily Hind News, the artist from Alagoas now takes off on new

Tavinho Camerino's journey with furniture design began in 2017, when he
was still an architecture student. From the very beginning, he was
interested in combining traditional materials and techniques from artisans
from Alagoas with industrial innovations. So much so that, among his initial
creations, there were pieces in coconut wood with iron, produced with
artisans from São Miguel dos Milagres (AL).
