Natural Wicker Antique Footstool Heywood Brothers & Wakefield Co. w/Leather Seat
About the Item
This handsome natural wicker footstool is woven with round reed in a rolled edge fashion with closely woven skirting. Features include flared ball feet of turned wood to simulate wicker wrapping. The seat is leather and looks to be original.
Footstools are rare in this condition as they were heavily used. Because of the quality, this one is attributed to Heywood Brothers and Wakefield Company. Heywood Brothers was established in 1826, the Wakefield Company in 1855, both the premier names in the manufacturing of wicker furniture and as these products became increasingly popular towards the end of the century, they became serious rivals. In 1897 the companies merged as Heywood Brothers & Wakefield Company.
