About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this lovely Rosewood and walnut Piano Stool with iron fitting stamped H. Brook Patent, London to adjust the seat height The seat can normally be raised by 3 1/2 inches by turning the 2 knobs to the sides however then handles are missing so the height adjustment isn't working, you can fit new handles and then everything would be well again. The seat has a rosewood on plywood apron below the upholstery which covers the beech secondary wood which is painted to resemble rosewood. The turned and fluted walnut legs have wooden threads to allow them to be removed for ease of transport. It would not be uncommon for musicians to travel in their work and such a portable stool would be useful. It is likely the maker is Henry Brooks who formed his company in 1810 at 31 Lyme Street, Camden, London and was primarily known for making piano actions, hammerheads and keyboards. In 1920 Brooks amalgamated with Herrburger. Round piano stools marked H. Brooks are also known. The design of this stool is very sturdy and the raising action clever. It has been reupholstered in green leather. Circa 1875. We have deep cleaned hand condition waxed and hand polished it from top to bottom, there are naturally some patina marks to the timber in places but nothing you wouldn’t expect from a good used piece, as mentioned above the handles are missing so as things stand you are bidding on a normal piano stool, to access the height adjust you would need to fit handles to the mech Dimensions Height currently set at 48cm but when working its adjustable between 47cm all the way up to 55cm Width 52cm Depth 42cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
