About the Item

This unique vintage salon or barber’s chair, which could also work well as a barstool, blends bold industrial function with sculptural modernist form. The seat and arms reference Warren Platner’s iconic Wire Collection for Knoll, with elegant chromed steel rods fanning outward to cradle the upholstered cushions. Unlike Platner’s designs, however, this example is mounted atop a heavy-duty hydraulic base with rolling casters, manufactured by Belvedere Products Company, a well-known maker of professional salon equipment in the mid-century era. The chair’s heavy cast aluminum base and steel footrest offer stability and adjustability, while the modernist seat delivers both comfort and style. This rare hybrid piece is perfect for collectors and designers seeking something a bit outside the norm, ideal for display, repurposing such as a bar stool, or use in an artist’s studio, retail space, or creative commercial project. This mid-century modern swivel chair would work beautifully in a Mid-Century Modern, Scandinavian Modern, or Danish Modern home or loft, but would also complement a Contemporary or Postmodern interior. Consider using it in a hotel lobby, members club, barbershop, or boutique as a striking conversation piece. Could also work as a desk chair, side chair, bar chair, counter chair, dressing room chair, or reading chair in virtually any stylish setting.
