Late 19th Century French Bible Box, Trunk, Blanket Chest

About the Item

Late 19th Century French Bible Box, Trunk, Blanket chest. Likely used as a chest to hold sacred items such as a bible, music manuscripts, candles, etc. A simply constructed wood box with no decoration except the original brass strap hinge with foliated cross design. The box on the left would have been to hold candles. In recent times, this chest was used as a coffee table. Water marks reflect recent usage. Good stable condition and a special piece. Dims: 36" wide x 18" deep x 15" high Provenance: Private Collection, East Hampton, New York.
