Folk Art Decorated Chest, circa Late 1940s

Vintage Folk Art Decorated Wooden Chest or Footlocker, formerly the traveling chest of Big Band and cabaret singer Betty George, circa late 1940s to early 1950s, having an intricate geometric painted decoration reminiscent of the South Seas. The interior has a lift-out tray with two compartments closed by sliding lids. The chest has iron side bail handles and is mounted with casters. The lid bears the painted inscription "Miss Betty George."
The chest was obviously well used. The exterior is well scuffed and worn, but remains solid and strong, and the decoration remains very vibrant and nicely patinated. The interior is exceptionally well kept and bright, although one glue block is missing that helps support the tray.
Measures: 12-1/2 in H x 31-1/2 in L x 16 in W
