About the Item

Crafted mid-century from solid oak, this substantial trunk pairs a heavily, hand-carved front and large, elaborate iron accents to create a stunning piece that demands attention. The face of the trunk is carved from oak that is not quatersawn, giving it the full effect of the deep grain that intentionally appears to be splitting. A tool was used to open up the deep grain to create even larger, more distinct grooves. The carvings take on a Gothic look with lancet arches that are incorporated into the leg panels of the trunk while the center panel has five dominate diamond shapes with additional arches and scrolled patterns that repeat. Embellished with three luxurious iron hinges that feature a leaf design on the back of the trunk and a scrolled design on the trunk's top, the trunk opens to generous storage that is divided into two sections.
