About the Item

19th Century French Louis XIII Whitewashed Oak Bookcase is a majestic reminder of the glorious revivals of designs spanning millennia that occurred during the middle to the end of the 1800s in France. Hand-crafted from dense, old-growth quarter sawn oak to literally last for centuries, the design features a neoclassical influence in its architecture yet rendered in a decidedly French flair. The bold, multiple tiered crown presides over the casework, painstakingly mitered to follow the fluted, mitered cornerposts both above and below, each accented with roundels at the base of the pilaster. The upper tier consists of a pair of glazed doors each fitted with eight panes of hand-rolled glass, which open to reveal a pair of contoured shelves creating three display surfaces above. The lower cabinet which steps out a bit from the upper tier is fitted with solid panel doors with tailored frames around the chamfered panels and a wheat motif on the astragal. Even the upper and lower side panels are handsomely framed and chamfered for a classic look from any angle. Professionally whitewashed by our expert in-house staff to create a light and airy visually appeal! Circa 1850s Measures 100.5H x 64W x 20D Available for pickup in the Dallas Design District, Dallas, TX.
