Art Deco Walnut Skyscraper Bookcases, A Pair
About the Item
A smart pair of walnut Art Deco skyscraper bookcases. Circa 1930-40. Each cabinet has the stepped hard geometric lines revealing the true aesthetic of the Art Deco period. Nicely figured walnut veneers. Plinth bases. Both have two small doors on the bottom with tapered block handles for hidden storage. Reminiscent of Paul Frankl's Skyscraper furniture designs. These are often attributed to the Modernage Furniture Company of New York City.
Good overall condition with cosmetic blemishes and wear consistent with age and use. Minor overall scuffs, fine scratches, abrasions and veneer chips along the edges. One door sticks a little. Structurally sound and sturdy design. Some veneer chips have been colored in.
Each cabinet is approximately 13” deep x 36.25” wide at the base x 47.75” high. The approximate heights of the cubby holes from top to bottom are 7.75”, 10”, 11”, and 10.5”.
