Model 795 Bookcase by Carlo Scarpa for Bernini

About the Item

More than just a bookcase but rather a small architectural masterpiece that is the focal point of any space, the Model 795 bookshelf (sometimes called the “Serie 1935” or “Liberia 1935”) was designed by Carlo Scarpa (1906-1978) in 1935 for his own home in Rio Marin in Venice, Italy and retains the charm and elegance of artisan furniture by a master of Italian architecture. Designed with two enameled metal upright supports with adjustable height and natural walnut modular shelves of four different depths that get progressively shallower from bottom to top. It can be set up against a wall or used as a room divider. Carlo Scarpa was an Italian architect and designer, who served as artistic consultant for the Venini glass industry and was responsible for some of the most original Murano glass in Italian design history. Scarpa's architecture, which has been described as "the most cultured and aristocratic of the Italian twentieth century”, is characterized by a love for materials, attention to detail, and a skillful elaboration of Frank Lloyd Wright's greatest work. He produced design work for Bernini, Cassina, Venini, and Gavina and was the architect for countless projects throughout Italy. In excellent vintage condition, this bookshelf was stored by its owner in the original packaging and only assembled for taking photos. 81” x 20” x 98” (height is adjustable) Shelf depths - 14", 12.5”, 10.25”, and 9.75”.
