About the Item

Extraordinary quality American bench made old Reproduction "Gothic" Chippendale style hand carved mahogany Breakfront bookcase with maker's label inside the right hand drawer for The Albano Company, Inc. New York. The Albano Company, established in 1885, were cabinetmakers of the finest period style furniture. PLEASE NOTE: Exquisitely hand-carved mahogany throughout, including the exceptional details exhibited in the swan-neck pediment. "Blind fretted" cornice and base frieze are extraordinarily hand carved in incredible detail. "Gothic" barred glazed doors have carved Corinthian capital motifs (note thickness of barring!) Superbly book-matched "crotch" or highly-figured mahogany paneled doors with hand carved moulding open to reveal tremendous amounts of storage space. Gadroon or rope-carved base terminates in intricately carved ogee feet. This is a quality from artisans that no longer exist. Every detail is done exquisitely and comparatively speaking, this is about as good as it gets. Exceptional, age-appropriate condition. Several keys remain with breakfront bookcase. Additional dimensions: depth: 20.5" - at feet 17" - at ends 19" - at center
