18th Century Country French Vinter's Buffet in Stripped Oak

About the Item

18th Century Country French Vintner's Buffet in Stripped Oak is an unusual design, created for a prosperous wine producer during the waning years of the century out of solid, indigenous old-growth white oak, the same wood used by the barrel cooper to create the barrels in which the wine was aged. Intriguingly, two small drawers on top, sized just about right for typical vintner's tools, are bottle shaped and fitted with steel ring pulls. A flower with floral sprays appears between the drawers, carved directly into the apron, with a similar carved embellishment appearing in the design of the subtly scrolled apron below. In between, two spacious cabinet doors that open up without a center stile for unencumbered access, feature door frameworks in bottle shapes, accented with flowers and scroll work. Massive corner posts made from thick solid timbers of oak appear on all four corners indicating this piece was literally designed to last for centuries, like it already has! Note the hand-hewn plank work of the back side, and the liberal use of pegged mortise & tenon joinery, all signs of meticulous traditional handwork of the type handed down from generation to generation. Truly an instant family heirloom, especially for the wine connoisseur in your family! Painstakingly stripped by our professional in-house experts using our proprietary technique that retains the natural beauty and patina of the old-growth wood. Circa 1790s Measures 38H x 50W x 21D.
