About the Item

This elegant Provençal buffet was hand carved in southern France circa 1890. Built of solid walnut, the cabinet exemplifies the Louis XV style with its graceful lines, scalloped form, and intricate floral carving throughout. Standing on small cabriole legs ending with escargot feet, the piece features a richly sculpted apron adorned with a central urn overflowing with flowers and foliage. The façade is fitted with two drawers decorated with scrolling vines and dressed with heavy forged iron handles and escutcheons. Below, a pair of shaped paneled doors with a fixed center stile open to reveal interior shelving for ample storage; each door is accented with large pierced iron escutcheons and long decorative hinges. The shaped top with molded edges provides an ideal surface for displaying decorative objects, ceramics, or family heirlooms. Warm and inviting, this antique provincial sideboard retains its original hardware and a lustrous walnut-toned patina highlighting the natural grain of the fruitwood. In excellent condition commensurate with age and use. Key included. Measures: 51.25" W x 23.75" D x 38" H.
