19th Century French Brittany Vaisselier with Clock

About the Item

A 19th Century Country French vaisselier, or china hutch, from Brittany made of solid chestnut and in two parts. The top has a tall plate rack with two sets of six shelves with turned spindle gallery flanking a glass cased clock. Clock has an enamel face with embossed brass surround and large brass pendulum. In working order with seven day Morbier movement and signed by the clockmaker: Girard and the town: Quimper. Note: the pendulum door has two panes of glass with a visible seam. The buffet has simple hand-carved decoration of flowering vines, scalloped door panels and apron. One shallow dovetailed drawer above a two door cabinet opening to one interior shelf. Original brass hardware including large hinges, decorative escutcheons and a heart in the center. Working locks and two keys. The plate rack rests on the buffet and there is a space cut into the top to accommodate the pendulum. Waxed patina. The plate rack and legs of the buffet were restored at some point.
