About the Item

Dating to the 1700s, the central cartouche of this credenza buffet was originally from an altar, in Naples, Italy. The cartouche is a fantastic relief carving of a highly scrolled console with a foliate medallion encompassed by volutes, scrolls, and segmented leaves. On either side of the altarpiece is an asymmetrical, lockable door that opens to reveal a full-length shelf and a light blue interior. An angular top and apron, both with thick molding, complete the credenza, providing a nice juxtaposition to the curvaceous cartouche. The wooden body of the piece surrounding the central cartouche was more recently built using salvaged antique wood and later painted a mix of beige and gray, with some black and gold accents. Recessed areas, such as the two panels on each door, were painted red with orange and white “veining”, mimicking the appearance of striated marble. This truly one-of-a-kind two-door buffet with a polychrome faux marble finish would surely make a statement piece wherever it is placed, from a hallway to a living room. It would also make a wonderful counter for a wine room or bar area.
