About the Item

This Louis XVI four door mahogany cabinet is adorned with bronze d'ore swags and mounts throughout; on the doors are floriate swags with a bow ribbon motif at center. Between the top large doors, and the lower doors is a grouping of intertwining leaf scrolls. The bottom doors are simply decorated in the classic Louis XVI manner, with short feet crowned with bronze d’ore capitals and bottoms. Additional details are seen in the bronze d'ore escutcheons as well as the gold leafed bronze in the fluting at bottom and the mounts at top left and right. The French antique piece dates back to the 19th century and beautifully reflects the Louis XVI period with style. The piece is part of the collection from The French Antique Shop, a fourth generation antique store in the heart of the French Quarter of New Orleans. A space that was created and curated at first by Marie and Marcelle and Granet. Their first shop was located in the heart of Paris, and opened in 1919 after they migrated to Paris from Romania post World War I. Shortly after establishing themselves in Paris, as a Jewish family they were forced to flee in the late 1930s before World War II. Marie and Marcel opened up their shop in New Orleans in 1939, the city in which this antique collection has grown and continues to flourish. The store is now run by the third and fourth generation, Marc, Michael, and Brian Friedlander, and is a highly curated space filled with rare antiquities, fine antique lighting, eclectic fixtures, and everything in between. We have imported all the antique items in our collection directly from France.
