1930’s kingwood inlaid Swedish marble top secretaire
About the Item
Good quality inlaid secretaire circa 1930.
Over-sailing grey marble top with canted corners. Single drawer below the top surface cross banded and with ormolu mounts. Profusely inlaid fall drops down to a writing height of 28 3/4". Inside a partially fitted interior of 6 drawers and pigeon holes with fan shaped mounts.
Below the fall is a further drawer, embellished with further mounts.
Standing on 4 tapered legs with brass tipped feet.
Marble with an overhang at the back to allow for clearance of skirting.
Minor restorations to veneer. 1 small loss to marble top on the back edge.

With a shaped rectangular marble top over two cupboard doors opening to a shelfed interior all resting on bracket feet. With marquetry inlaid throughout and bronze mounts. Jacob was born in Germany in 1745. He married twice, in 1770 with Jeanne Rochette in Saint-Pierre and Saint-Saturnin church in Lyon and in 1772 with Anne Rougier in the same parish. He had a son, Paul, himself a cabinetmaker. He obtained his Master of Arts in 1770. Belonging to the Saint-Pierre and Saint-Saturnin church in the peninsula, he worked successively rue des Deux Angles, quai de Retz and finally 58 street of the Old Mint where it is still mentioned in 1808.
