Decorate an entry or hunting lodge with this elegant antique cabinet. Crafted in France, circa 1870, the jelly cabinet stands on a recessed molded plinth base. The "Confiturier" ( French for jelly cabinet ) with side column on both sides features a single door decorated with hand carved game bird and reed motifs in high relief; the inside reveals a middle shelf. The surface is dressed with an inset black marble top. The small buffet has a drawer embellished with carved foliage decor and is dressed with an iron pull. This elegant fruitwood chest of drawers was crafted in France, circa 1860. The traditional commode sits on round columnar feet over a straight bottom plinth, and is embellished on both sides by carved round columns with decorative bronze rings at the neck and base. The cabinet features three drawers across the front with the original bronze pulls and key holes escutcheons, and a fourth additional drawer under the marble top. 19th century French Henri II neoclassical walnut confiturier, cabinet is a stellar example of the petite buffet with one door affectionately called the confiturier because of its original design being intended to store confit jars in the kitchen. At some point it became obvious that a very useful miniature buffet like this would be ideal for other rooms, and the genre blossomed. This example, rendered from sumptuous French walnut, features neoclassical architecture including turned columns carved with fletching on the face fitted with Doric capitals on each cornerpost, flanking the stylized pyramidal heraldic crest on display in full relief at the center of the cabinet door.
