About the Item

Impressive cabinet in Boulle marquetry. Napoleon III period. Stamped by "Ringuet à Paris." Perfect condition. Stamped (on the plate 2 times) by the cabinetmaker "RINGUET à PARIS" : Ringuet is a family home beginning in 1777 with the birth of Julian Daniel René (1777-1839). He married, at age 54, with the widow of P. Leprince and adopted his son, Emile Auguste, who then became his associate and his successor. After their deaths, his wife and his adopted son Augustus Emile (1801-1886) took part in the exhibition of the products of the French Industry in 1839 where the jury awarded them bronze medal. In 1835, he married the sister of Leo Marcotte. From August 1831, he became the associate of his step-father and his partner. He participated in the Exhibition of 1844, where he won again a bronze medal for table in the style of Boulle. In 1853, he participated with Marcotte at show of Crystal Palace of New-York. His brother Leon Marcotte moved to America in 1848. Thus, the two brothers opened a shop in New York, under the social reason RINGUET PRINCE & MARCOTTE. Although, he never lived in America, but he was one of the most famous cabinetmaker of New York and Paris. He worked for many personalities such as King and Queen of France, Duke of Nemours, Prince A. Württemberg, Duchess of Orleans, Ernest of Saxe Cobourg, Countess Montalivet, Princess of Joinville, Duchess of Aumale,. Some of his furniture can be found in private collections (in France and USA), the Mobilier National de Paris or Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. This furniture is imposing by larges cariatids in gilded bronzes, and his concaves sides. Spectacular busts of woman standing. On their heads, a packed basket. Beautiful marquetry work decorated with foliage, with a dancer at the door's center. Concave sides inlaid of tortoiseshell and brass. Headband decorated with a wide frieze (with King's face on the center). Marble is a thick Black Portor restored, but with marble's veins, it's invisible. Original lock. Interior with two shelves.
