About the Item

An exceptional custom two part mahogany breakfront server cabinet or bookcase by Joseph Gerte of Boston, MA, its upper case featuring a crest with center swan’s neck broken arch pediment with carved rosettes and foliate fretwork, surmounting a cornice with dentil molding, two glazed glass doors opening to a central compartment with three adjustable shelves, flanked by open compartments with open carved clamshell arches and two shelves, over a lower case with a band of satinwood veneer over a central long lined divided flatware drawer, over two paneled doors opening to a single pull out linen drawer and one additional adjustable shelf. This central compartment is flanked by side fitted frieze drawers over a single door opening to a single adjustable shelf compartment. All the drawers feature brass scrollwork handles. This breakfront dates to the mid-20th century and is in very good to excellent overall condition, with only a few minor corner rubs, a few small fretwork break repairs, imperfections, and light wear commensurate to age and use. The Joseph Gerte brand can be found inside the central drawer. Dimensions: 88 in H x 74 in W x 17 in D. Ref:908
