French 19th Century Transitional St. Tulipwood Marquetry Cabinet

About the Item

A very attractive French 19th century Transitional st. tulipwood, kingwood and charmwood cabinet. The cabinet is raised on cabriole legs, decorated at the front with ormolu sabots and a tulipwood filet leading up to the top richly chased satin and burnish foliate ormolu mount. The arbalest shaped apron is adorned with a finely chased ormolu mount, below the accordion style doors, which open to reveal a shelf. Above is the original gold tooled leather writing pullout. Each side is decorated with a floral marquetry of tulipwood framed within a charmwood filet. The curved charmwood frieze is decorated with inlaid maple swaging garlands, and central drawer with ormolu keyhole escutcheon and pulls. Above is the original Brèche de Baixas mottled marble top. All original gilt and hardware.
