Mid-Century American Sanitary Bakery Bread Delivery Trunk

About the Item

A scarce and truly exciting find, we're proud to present this exceedingly rare gem, uniquely unusual, likely a one and only to ever exist. Vintage hand-made and painted rustically primitive, massive sized, metal over wood American country bread and baked goods delivery case / receiving bin / decorative box storage chest / professional bakers cabinet from the mid-20th century. Custom crafted for Sanitary Bakery; Nanticoke, PA, USA. Sanitary Bakery started in 1918 as a wholesale business which baked and sold only white bread and spice cakes. The name of the business was originally “Navy Sliced Bread” with the name changed to "Sanitary Bakery" in 1948. Designed to deliver and provide local eateries with freshly baked bread and other baked goods very early in the morning, before the restaurant opened or was able to get fresh bread otherwise. This was achieved by placing large metal lock box food storage containers such as this, outside the local business, restaurants and cafes they had a partnership with, allowing the bakery to deliver the fresh bread and conveniently have it waiting for them. We love this lidded container for its unique charming form, functional and flexible design, lightweight portability, and mix of contrasting decorative elements, such as organic wear and bright, playful color. Beautifully weathered, rich remnants of original painted blue finish remain, scattered, faded, naturally distressed and heavily worn, with white, grey and metallic accents. Having a substantial sized metal over wood hinged lid, with a metal bracket for padlock to secure it closed. The slanted storage chest top lifts to reveal large single compartment with interior fitted on all sides with once insulating white metal tin. The chest stands on four strong, sturdy legs. Versatile, decorative and offering generous storage, makes for a wonderful side table, low table, work bench, gardening station, credenza or sideboard server, blanket chest, bedside nightstand, chest of drawers bedroom commode, hall console, childs writing desk, media center, parlor library table, lamp stand, make a statement in an old farmhouse entry, or use it alone as a industrial accent piece! Unusual Early American Quack Medicine Thompson-Plaster Electric Cabinet

A rare and most unusual Thompson-Plaster electrical cabinet, by Physician's Specialty Company, Leesburg, Virginia, United States. The historic turn of the late 19th / early 20th century quack medicine machine used a violent ray electrotherapy apparatus as a cure-all, claiming to cure numerous ailments, cancers, and more. Featuring the original oak framed glazed glass-covered marble top for use with 'medical' instruments, atop quartersawn oak chest fitted with three graduated drawers, opening to reveal various associated equipment and supplies, including blown glass evacuated tube implements of varying shapes and for different therapeutic uses. High-quality solid wood case, rising on castors. Signed, retaining the original manufacturer plaque. Museum quality. Provenance / Acquisition: Reportedly purchased by Dr. Slaughter, of Goldthwaite, Texas, May, 1903.
