Pagoda Pavilion Crest and Top Case Description: Overall there are three pagoda style pavilions for porcelain display, each with pierced Chinese fretwork railing on three sides, pierced Chinese lotus fretwork backs and each supported by Gothic columns. All three pavilions are sitting on a stylized plinth carved to resemble a reeded pagoda roof and each corner is finished with four curled dragon tails. The larger central pavilion is surmounted with a miniature arched Gothic pavilion for Chinese figure ornament. The miniature pavilion is sitting on foliate canopy base with five pointed finials The larger central pavilion features a Chinese Chippendale pagoda roof is carved with stylized ribbon and lace design and two front roof corners are adorned with Ho Ho bird heads with bellflower tassels hanging from each bird’s neck. The roof is carved with up springing Ho Ho bird feathers. The two flanking pavilions have fish scale tiled pagoda roofs and a central roof line with stylized dragon tail arches, waves and flames. Each flanking pagoda has a front roofline surmounted with miniature chinoiserie foliate dome featuring fountains with water cascading between the leaves and accented with four hanging bellflower finials. The three pavilions are sitting on a cornice that consists of reeded foliate, egg-and-dart and fretwork dentil carved molding. The top bookcase has a main recessed rectangular cabinet with two Chinese Chippendale glazed doors framed in Gothic blind fretwork with single stacked fish scale astragal dividing them. The main cabinet features two adjustable shelves and two drawers that are hidden by the blind fretwork at the bottom of each door. There is also a flat work surface in front of the double recessed bookcase doors. The main cabinet is flanked by rectangular glass cabinet door with matching motifs, two adjustable and shelves and each with a lower drawer hidden by the fretwork. Each of the flanking cabinets have a hidden, carved side cabinet door located on the double matching panels lining the outside of each cabinet. The three bookcase cabinets are resting on a pagoda roof-like carved plinth similar in style to the plinth the pavilions are on. Bottom Case: The bottom case has a large single center drawer with a carved frieze, two flanking carved cabinets doors with four shelves, and a large finished porcelain niche. The single center drawer is solid carved mahogany featuring a Chinese water garden with four pavilions each connected with blind fretwork railing above a carved C-scroll with waterfall. The drawer is supported on either side by two hanging brackets carved in Chinese pagoda forms accented with waterfalls. The two flanking panel doors are solid mahogany and feature carvings of water gardens framed by Rococo style foliate S-scrolls and C-scrolls that are accented with stylized pagodas and fountains. The door panels are framed with blind Chinese fretwork carvings. The panel doors enclose four mahogany drawers each with four bronze pulls featuring rosettes. The sides of the lower cabinet each feature a large Rococo style carved garden scene, crowned with Chinese pagoda domes surrounded by foliate S-scrolls and C-scrolls and a water fountain perched on a Gothic stone arch flanked by Gothic stone arches each with waterfalls. The bottom case if finished with egg-and-dart molding and rests on six heavily carved feet. Each of the feet are carved in the form of Gothic arched stone buildings with sweeping stone steps lined with columns and centered with C-scrolls and waterfalls.
