The founders, Mia and Torben Koed, decided to put their 30 years of experience into a new project. It was time for a change and a new challenge. The challenge was to build an ambitious design brand from the ground up with high-quality materials and great attention to the little details. With a drive to create new originals, the WOUD collection is founded upon the idea to look ahead instead of looking back and share the love for honest design. Therefore, we are eager to discover and develop new ideas whether it being in form, function or choice of material.
Made by Michael is a Danish design studio founded by Michael Daae Christensen in 2014 with a strive to create simple design. He is an inquisitive talent with passion for the whole process of design - from sketch to final production. After he completed his Master in Furniture Design from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Michael Christensen moved to New York to work at Søren Rose Studio...

Strata Cabinet by SNICKERIET

Strata Cabinet by SNICKERIET
Dimensions: D 40 x W 125 x H 115,7 cm.
Materials: Oak veneer, solid oak, lacquer and wax.
Smaller size adjustments are accepted without additional cost. Larger
adjustments can be discussed as long as the furniture archetype is maintained. Please contact us.
By manipulating wood grain patterns, Strata captures an expression in
between the organic and the man-made. The surface consists of tangential layers of oak, veneered at an angle on top of each other, and carefully sanded down into a pattern inspired by the veining of sedimentary rock. The combination of wood grain patterns and stone vein formations creates a mesmerizing texture that draws the mind toward root or burl wood, yet is distinctly different through its repetition and distortion.
The technique developed has its roots in conventional intarsia inlay, but in
order to find an expression more organic and naturally occurring, the
graphical nature of cut-out veneering has been replaced by an extensive
process of sanding down transitions between overlapping veneers. Continuing the approach of interpreted nature; all angles, shapes, and proportions of the cabinet relate to pi and the golden ratio. The subsurface of Strata is prepared to compensate for the irregularities caused by the sanding, resulting in a perfectly flush surface. The cabinet is finished with a glossy lacquer and a wax coating.
SNICKERIET is a furniture studio with an explorative approach to traditional woodworking craft and philosophy. Projects are initiated as research into topics revolving technique, construction, decoration and material properties. The findings are released in the form of individual pieces of furniture.
