P.E.L. Izeren for De Genneper Molen Cabinet in Oak and Glass

About the Item

P.E.L. Izeren for De Genneper Molen, cabinet, model '280', oak, coromandel, glass, The Netherlands, 1920s This rare cupboard is conceived by Dutch designer P.E.L. Izeren for De Genneper Molen in the 1920s. The furniture designs of Izeren were in line with the work of other 'Haagse School' designers such as Cornelis van der Sluys, Frits Spanjaard and Hendrik Wouda. Characteristics of their furniture were simple construction, the use of cubistic shapes and lacquering in different colors, which emphasizes different parts individually. The designer aimed to create a cupboard that would provide a diversity of storage possibilities, lending it a versatile character. The construction can be divided in three sections; the upper part with its glass framework, the middle segment that can be accessed through a doorpanel and the outer sides which are flanked with shelves, allowing the user to utilize the cabinet in width and depth. The body is executed in oak and the keyhole, together with the base, is made from a luxurious type of wood called coromandel that shows expressive wood grains. The hidden shelves are stained in a red color, enhancing the plasticity of the piece. Please note that this item is in good, used condition with some signs of age and use.
