About the Item

A mid-century cabinet No. U-450 designed by Jiří Jiroutek made of ash, birch, fabric, and steel. The cabinet features a flip-top concealing storage with venting along the underside. The cabinet comes from the famous Universal series (U-450), designed in 1958 for the Czechoslovak national company Interior Praha. The success of the Czech pavilion at the Brussels Ex-’58 was followed by the rise of the modernist style called ‘Brussels style.’ About Jiří Jiroutek Jiroutek, born in the Czech Republic, emerged as a significant figure in the world of design, particularly during the mid-20th century, when he contributed notably to the modernist movement within furniture design. Educated in architecture and design, Jiroutek’s innovative approach led to the creation of pieces that have become icons of Czech design for functionality and aesthetic appeal. His legacy is defined by his ability to merge practicality with elegance, making him a revered figure among collectors and design enthusiasts seeking to celebrate and preserve the essence of mid-century modernism.
