Sobreiro "Wave" Cabinet by the Campana Brothers, Brazil 2018

About the Item

Part of the limited edition Sobreiro Collection, this “Wave Cabinet” is perhaps the most recognisable of the cork cabinets in the exclusive collection by the Campana Brothers. The wave-shaped front is masterfully crafted from the unique cork material. The texture, colour and pattern of the cork make this cabinet visually striking. Although heavy looking, with the addition of the airy waves, the cabinet manages to look delicate and striking at the same time. The cabinet has a structure made of MDF (medium-density fibreboard), and is further made of expanded natural cork agglomerate. This material is made by heating cork, without the need to use any additive. The Sobreiro collection was developed in partnership with Consulate General of Portugal in Sao Paulo, cork supplier Amorim, the furniture company Época and the brand European Capital of Furniture (Capital Europeia do Móvel). The pieces of the Sobreiro Collection were exhibited at the Consulate General of Portugal in Sao Paulo in 2018. Made upon order: Estimated production time, ca 6-8 weeks Condition: New. Because this is a handmade artistic work made of a natural product, each item is one-of-a-kind and minor variations in colour, texture, shape, grain, and sizing can occur. Dimensions: 31.5 in. W x 15.75 in. D x 63 in. H 80 cm W x 40 cm D x 160 cm H About the designer: The Campana Brothers, Humberto and Fernando, are among the icons of contemporary furniture design. Via their pieces, the Campana Brothers institute conversation around ethical production, sustainability and social awareness into some of the world’s most alluring interiors. Their unique designs have earned them numerous awards, including the Ordre des Arts et Lettre from the Ministry of Culture in France and the Order of Cultural Merit in Brazil. European Mid-Century Display Cabinet, Europe ca 1940s
Located in Utrecht, NL
Curio or display cabinets are versatile pieces of furniture that offer a creative way to showcase its owner’s interests and style. This unique cabinet not only serves a functional purpose, but thanks to its unique characteristics, it is a charming and stylish addition to any space. A glass display cabinet can transform an entire room. A glass display cabinet gives the perfect opportunity to put a collection on display. Books, cards, figurines, art, liquor, and an infinite amount of other trinkets can be put on display in a sophisticated, stylish manner, especially in open designs such as this European cabinet. The solid wooden structure has subtle decorative elements paired with simpler solutions like the straight face frame and top. European cabinetmakers and designers created versatile and functional models from solid wood. This cabinet is an exemplary European 20th century design, with a single shelf in the middle. Dividing the space in two, the shelf makes the design perfect to display anything as the sides are made of glass. This creates a classic look, while the open front allows the most eye-catching detail to stand out: the orange velvet inlay. Delicate objects can be safely stored and displayed on the soft velvet, and visually it creates an accent that draws the eye. The lower part is equally enticing with four thin, Marlborough-reminiscent legs and carved details. The display cabinet style is designed for displaying curios, which are simply collections and treasured items. With its beautiful wood surfaces and velvet accent shelf...

Brazilian Wood Three-Seater Sofa by Rino Levi, Brazil 1950s
By Rino Levi
Located in Utrecht, NL
Rino Levi was one of the pioneers of the modern movement in Brazil, advocating for simple, practical and economical design, disparaging the imitation of classicism. ‘Classical spirit’ rather than classical forms was his ideal. Levi was instrumental in spreading the fame of Brazilian modernism through his furniture designs as well. As this beautiful Brazilian wood sofa shows, by the 1960s, Levi abandoned Italian rationalism in favour of an approach closer to that of the Rio modernists both in his architectural and furniture designs. As a piece of true Brazilian mid-century design, the beauty of the wood and organic shapes and lines dominate this three-seater sofa. The tilted, architectural lines of wood making up the armrests create a visually distinct and exciting appearance. The additional horizontal lines connecting to the backrest are a creative addition, while also supporting the overall stability. The frame with its joinery praises Rino Levi’s craftsmanship and architectural expertise. The beautiful colour of the wood is highlighted by the light upholstery of the body in a premium bouclé fabric, including the three removable cushions. This sofa model is rare to find, for as during Brazil's military dictatorship, it was against the law to export furniture. The ban on exports only ended in the 1980s, but it still took some time for things to change, not to mention that handmade pieces were created in limited editions. Therefore, it is no exaggeration to say that this sofa is special, and a real rarity. Condition: In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. Some scratches and marks on the wood. The sofa has been reupholstered recently in a premium bouclé fabric. Each of our items can be re-upholstered by our in-house atelier in a fabric of choice. Please reach out for more information. Dimensions: 86.41 in W x 28.74 in D x 30.31 in H; Seat height 16.14 in 219.5 cm W x 73 cm D x 77 cm H; Seat height 41 cm About the Designer: Rino Levi was a Brazilian architect important to the development of modernism in Brazil. Levi was born to Italian Jewish parents on December 31, 1901 in São Paulo, Brazil. After graduating from Colégio Dante Alighieri in São Paulo, Levi studied in Milan and Rome under Marcello Piacentini. In 1924, he moved to the School of Architecture of Rome. There, he met Adalberto...
