Sublime circa 1740 Portuguese Burr Walnut Campaign Cabinet on Stand Bank Drawers

We are delighted to offer for sale this exceptionally rare 18th century circa 1740 Burr Walnut Portuguese east indies chest on stand A very fine and well made piece hence it has survived in sublime condition for the best part of 300 years. This is a Portuguese east indies campaign chest on stand, it would have been used for storing exotic herbs and teas transported from the East Indian shipping company to Portugal The frame is all solid burr walnut and looks absolutely sublime from top to bottom. The hardware is all polished brass and looks exquisite from any angle. Naturally the top section of drawers is removable The chest comes complete with the original key and locking plate which is removable, the lock and key work but the locking plate doesn’t go all the way inside the frame anymore so it can’t be locked Condition wise this piece has been cleaned waxed and polished, I have left the overall finish original however it can be fully restored to include a strip back and French polish should the new owners wish, this restoration would be completed at the new owners expense. On inspection I can see patina marks as you would expect, someone has heavily polished the brass and there is residual polish left around all the edges which actually help the brass pop Dimensions: Height 135.5cm top to bottom, base only 73cm Width 74.5cm Depth 55cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
