Waring & Gillow Oak Cotswold School Manner Arts And Crafts Cabinet Circa 1920

About the Item

Superb Waring & Gillow oak Arts & Crafts/Cotswold School manner cabinet on stand. Circa 1920. Maker's stamp. Excellent quality, made in solid oak with chamfered edge detail to the stand and cupboard doors, and peg construction. Hand hammered wrought iron handles. The cabinet is in excellent condition, and has been lightly re-finished along with a smooth waxed polish. The cabinet still retains a few light authentic marks to highlight its genuine heritage. It was given a very light aged appearance when made. Waring & Gillow were a renowned firm of English furniture makers, formed by the merging of the famous Gillow of Lancaster with Waring of Liverpool in 1897. The merger was fully formalised in 1903, with the formation of Waring and Gillow. The interior cupboard space has two shelves, the inner drawer is missing to the left hand cupboard space, this was presumably removed to hold bottles as there are some marks relating to this. The right hand cupboard handle catch has worn slightly, but the door still stays closed when needed. The drawers work well, with both sides and backs also made in solid oak. They have dovetail construction. The central drawer has been freshly re-lined with baize. There are small knocks to two corners of one drawer. The shelves are 39cm deep. In the large cabinet interior, the top shelf has 23cm in height, the middle has 21cm, and the bottom, 23cm. The left hand cupboard has 45cm in height to the underside of the shelf. The cupboard section can be removed from the stand with drawers by five screws, if needed. Delivery is INCLUDED in the price for all areas in MAINLAND England & Wales. Free delivery is restricted to ground and first floor, unless there is a lift the item can fit in. There is an additional charge of £12 per floor for delivery above the first floor via the stairs.
