About the Item

A very attractive New England Curly Maple Highboy probably Massachusetts 1730-40 with a document drawer. Excellent color and patina on the old refinished surface. I originally thought this piece may have been an old marriage because there is an extra hole in the drawers of the upper section for the hardware and the bottom drawers fit flush inside the cabinet and not against the case. After carefully inspecting it I believe it is all original and made at the same time in the same cabinet shop. Everything else matches perfectly in every way. Construction techniques , materials, wood and natural oxidation of the woods. Drawer construction and dovetails match exactly. Drawer bottoms are fastened with the same rose head nails on all drawers. Interiors and backs are all matching. Another interesting unique characteristic that I noticed is that the rear legs point more to the front of the piece rather than off to the side like most other highboys that I have seen. Curly Maple, Maple, White Pine.
