About the Item

Important richly inlaid chest of drawers with a display cabinet. Probably from the 2nd half of the 18th century. Attributed to the region around the border triangle of Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. In particular inspired by the Liège style of the 18th century. Two-part corpus veneered and inlaid in various precious woods with slanted pilasters. Among others, mahogany, burl wood, boxwood banding with maple thread inlays. Bottom part of the chest with 3 curved drawers under a flat flap. Matching curved cut-out plinth apron. Profiled slightly overhanging top with large 12-pointed folding star inlay. On top a recessed two-door display case with profiled cornice. Fitted with a shelf on the inside. All drawers as well as the flap and the door are lockable with keys. Later brass hinges added to the flap. There may have been a drawer there originally.
