18th Century Italian Bleached Walnut Serpentine Front Commode / Chest of Drawers

About the Item

Chest of drawers hand-made in Italy in the mid 1700s using walnut and decorated by satin wood inlay. This is a gorgeous chest that has almost an ethereal look because of its delicate lines and light color. The chest sits on cabriole legs, decorated with hand-carved ridges. The front presents three drawers, all with serpentine fronts and beautiful inlay and each drawer has large, hand-made dovetail joints. The sides are curved and show a central geometrical inlay that is repeated on the top. The top follows the serpentine shape of the front and curved sides and is made of a board with ogee edge and rounded corners. It, too, is inlaid with the same motif found throughout the piece. This is a gorgeous commode that can be used on a daily basis in a bedroom or for decoration in any room of the house. It’s color gives it a modern look while its lines give it a very classical look.
