18th Century Italian Neoclassical Bleached Walnut Commode / Chest of Drawers

About the Item

Comò hand-made in Italy in the mid 1700s using walnut and decorated with walnut veneer. The commode shows the typical lines of the Italian neoclassical style with flat inset drawers, tapered legs, and an absolutely timeless look. The commode features a two-boards top with straight edges and corners, as well as chamfered flat panels framed by square molding on the sides. On the front the commode has three inset drawers with flat drawer fronts decorated with beautiful, symmetrical walnut veneer. All drawers show beautiful hand-made dovetail joints. This is a very elegant chest both because of its simple and timeless lines as well as its subtle veneer decoration on the front, which was made even more striking by the process of bleaching the wood. In fact, all the natural colors of the grain of the walnut are highlighted and the chest is decorated by a beautiful alternation of grey, white, ivory and cream tones, which add depth to the simple lines. The drawers work well and are spacious, making this a commode that can be used on a daily basis and, therefore, a piece of furniture that is both functional and beautiful. The bleached wood gives the chest of drawers a modern look, but all the little imperfections accumulated over time make it obvious that it is an antique, therefore it will fit well with many different styles of furniture.
