About the Item

An exceptional example of a George II style carved mahogany commode in the manner of Thomas Chippendale with foliate carved top and conforming bombe style case with scroll carved frieze decoration, three fitted frieze drawers over six fitted deeper drawers, flanked by foliate carved corners, continuing onto the nicely detailed carved skirt, all supported by four splayed scroll carved legs. The piece is adorned with complimenting scrolled brass drawer pulls and escutcheons and the drawers have been lined with decorative paper. Includes four locking keys. The commode dates to the 19th century and is in very good condition, with some minor edge and corner losses, surface scratches, veneer shrinkage, minor restorations and wear commensurate with age and use.
