19th Century Rococo Foliate & Scrollwork Carved Commode or Chest in Mahogany

About the Item

An exceptional 19th century English commode or chest with beautifully detailed foliate and scrollwork, its shaped conforming top with a gadrooned edge and extended canted corners surmounting a slight bow front case with two long drawers, each adorned with decorative brasses, flanked by heavily carved canted corners, along with a scrollwork skirt on the front and sides, all supported by four short carved cabriole legs. The commode is in very good condition, with some old veneer surface shrinkage repairs, minor surface finish wear, other imperfections and light wear commensurate with age and use. Dimensions: 36 in H x 53 in W x 23.5 in D. This piece was featured in an advertisement in Architectural Digest. Ref: 8
