Antique 19th Century Dutch Empire Warm Brown Curved Commode in Solid Elm

About the Item

This elegant four-drawer commode was made in the Netherlands circa 1860. It was made in solid elm with a pine interior. The commode has a convex-concave curved front. The piece has a two-plank top with a bullnose edge. Below four drawers are situated. Each drawer is equipped with two brass drawer pulls, a keyplate, and a lock. The brass pulls and keyplate is typical Dutch azure cut brass Empire hardware. All drawers have a working lock with one key provided that fits all locks. The commode stands on simple square lightly tapered feet. It has warm brown color with a beautiful grain pattern, deep gloss, and great patina. The drawers show paint remnants on the interior. The whole piece was gently cleaned and the old wax layers were revived and a new protective wax layer was applied. The drawers were finished with clear lacquer on the interior. The piece is clean, solid, and ready for use.
