About the Item

This beautiful commode was made in Germany in the late 19th century. The commode is made from European summer oak and solid pine and features three drawers. The drawers were enriched with each two marquetry or inlaid borders in various wood veneers. The contrast between the light and dark colors as well as the direction of the wood grain of the inlaid panels show the craftsmanship of its maker. All drawers were fitted with authentic locks with one key provided that fits all three locks. The drawers each have two oval patinated bronze drawer pulls and a matching keyplate. The drawers' interior, back, and bottom were made of solid pine. Both sides have recessed panels and the piece stands on slightly tapered feet on the front and simple square legs at the back with a simple molding above. The commode was stripped from its color and the whole piece was gently cleaned. It now shows the bare wood color of the aged oak. It has a very natural and warm color and is clean solid, and ready for use.
