Antique Broken Arch Top Harlequin Highboy for Restoration

About the Item

A very well made Highboy with fine traditional form, dove-tail drawer construction, later Batwing pulls and escutcheons, top turned Finials, two deep square drawers with Scalloped carving and resting on delicately curved Cabriolet legs. In total there are twelve drawers. The Highboy was involved in a fire in the early 20th Century and the refinishing work was halted midstream resulting in what has turned out to be a very interesting Harlequin presentation with some drawers in a tiger maple stain and the frame and other drawers in a deep mahogany stain. While restoration is a possibility, it is not strongly recommended as the piece is interesting and quite decorative the way it now stands. Dimensions: 77.5” high by 39.25” wide by 18” deep. Condition: Please see detail photos. There are various signs of age including stable age cracks, finish losses and rubs to the finish, a circular indent on the bottom drawer of the top unit and finish losses to the pulls and escutcheons. The escutcheons are false as there are no locks. As stated, despite the wear and condition, the Highboy presents in a singular and very decorative manner.
