About the Item
Antique French Commode with wonderful lion paw feet, in the Empire style, although we have seen this style referred to as restoration as well. Old plank has a history of purchasing anything with animal related feet and especially the lion paw style. Just take a peek at our lion paw sofa’s and lion paw beds, if you doubt us. Currently we have several of these antique French Empire lion paw feet in stock and each one goes through our extensive restoration process, before being offered for sale on 1stdibs. Each and every drawer is rebuilt, so that their action will be smooth and effortless. The finish of this antique French chest lion paw foot commode is an old fashion French Polish and although we cleaned the brasses, we were careful not to make them look too new. The Belgium stone top has been previously broken, like so many of them have and was repaired in France before being shipped. Although the repair is structurally sound, cosmetically it is just ok.
Stone previously broken and appears to be an old repair. It also has quite a bit of etching and the left corner is damaged. Images 16 and 18 show old repairs. Images 17-20 show damage to the veneer. It appears that the pulls either had back plates or they were changed at some point.
