About the Item

A handsome early 1800s British campaign chest, expertly crafted in richly grained mahogany and featuring original recessed brass hardware and corner mounts. Designed for ease of transport during military campaigns, this chest separates into two stacking sections—each fitted with flush-mounted brass drawer pulls and solid brass corner protectors. The piece rests on shaped bracket feet and showcases a warm, figured mahogany surface with beautiful depth and patina. Hand-cut dovetail joinery and brass escutcheons underscore its fine construction. The top of the lower half retains its original rounded wooden pegs, used to securely align the upper section—an authentic detail rarely preserved in campaign furniture of this age. An old British dealer label remains affixed to the underside, adding a layer of provenance. Minor wear and surface scuffs throughout are consistent with age and only enhance its charm. Also available: a pair of matching campaign bedside chests—offered separately—which together create a rare and striking full bedroom set.
