About the Item
A most unusual and rare, c. 1800, hand-carved and painted, serpentine, Venetian, Chinoiserie commode in the bombé style, with rounded legs terminating in ormolu feet. The whole richly decorated in garden scenes with blossoms, foliage, butterflies and birds, with the two drawers depicting figures in rural landscapes. The original, substantial top in onyx and marble.
