French 18th century Regence Period Mahogany, Ormolu and marble commode

About the Item

A high quality and most attractive French early 18th century Regence Period Mahogany, Ormolu and Rouge Royale marble commode, circa 1720. This stunning chest is raised on cabriole legs with fanciful pierced acanthus leaf decorated Ormolu sabots. The front legs flank a scalloped central reserve displaying an Ormolu seashell mount with scrolled branches to each side. The front drawers displays an arbalest shape across the bottom two wider drawers and top pair of narrow drawers. Each drawer is fitted with its original hardware including the elaborately pierced keyhole escutcheons and scrolled drawer pulls with sunflower backplates. The three levels of drawers are elegantly separated by concave Brass bands. Elegant chutes flank the drawers and lead up to stunning and large scale Ormolu mounts of classical maidens framed with acanthus leaves. Above is the original and think Rouge Royale marble top with a mottled edge, and following the shape of the commode.
