French 19th C. Secretary Chest Neoclassic Brass Hardware, Black Finish w/Blue
About the Item
A French painted wood secretary chest from the 19th century. This antique slat front chest from France features a drop down/fall front door, which opens to a desk-top surface (complete with leather writing pad) and reveals interior shelving and drawers. The case beneath houses three full-sized, dove-tailed drawers, for additional storage; each fitted with beautiful Neoclassic style hardware. Fluted carvings adorn the side edges of of the slanted top and continue down each front side post. This piece is presented on rounded, tapering feet. The color palette is mostly black with hints of turquoise, blue, and brown about the exterior. The interior desk area is blue, which contrasts nicely with the tan leather writing pad. Please note that the drop front is not entirely flat, primarily at the right corner, as can be seen in the additional images. This 19th century French secretary chest, with its masculine colors and soft/Neoclassic touches, will make a wonderful addition to your home or office.
