French 19th Century Transitional St. 'Perruquier' Chest, Stamped Henry Pannier

About the Item

A very unique and high quality French 19th century Transitional st. Ormolu, Tulipwood, Charmwood, Kingwood, and Breche D'Alep marble 'Perruquier' chest, stamped Henry Pannier. This high quality single drawer chest is raised by four square slender tapered legs with lovely inlaid fillets and pierced front scrolled foliate decorated Ormolu sabots. The arbalest shaped front apron displays a pierced Ormolu central reserve containing scrolling foliate designs with a bow and flowing ribbon on top. Above is the beautifully designed drawer with a central reserve made of marquetry designs of a basket of many flowers with a background of exquisite Charmwood. The edge surrounding the Charmwood has Greek key patterns as well as rounded interlocking bands. The two recessed panels on each end of the drawer are decorated with the circular laurel Ormolu pulls inside quarter veneered Tulipwood inlays and finished with a Kingwood Greek Key designed edge. Flanking the drawer on each front corner are pierced Ormolu foliate pendants. The panels on either side of the chest have additional quarter veneered Tulipwood inlays with Greek Key designed edges. Above is the Breche D'Alep marble top with a fine mottled border. The term 'Perruquier' refers to the primary use of this stunning chest which was made for the storage of the owners perukes/wigs.
