Italian 18th Century Louis XV Period Fruitwood, Kingwood and Ormolu Commode

About the Item

A magnificent Italian 18th century Louis XV period Fruitwood, Kingwood, and ormolu commode from Naples, circa 1760. The four drawer chest is raised by elegant cabriole legs leading to a beautiful scalloped shaped apron. Each of the drawers is decorated with wonderfully executed inlaid marquetry and parquetry designs with lovely rosettes, striking scrolled foliate ormolu pulls, and pierced foliate keyhole escutcheons spread across the superb bombee shaped front. The sides also display stunning and most decorative curvaceous shapes with beautiful inlaid central floral designs framed within delicately inlaid fillets. The top displays two similar charming inlaid floral designs set on a remarkable veneered background with a unique and most decorative raised mottled border at the back and sides.
